Date ideas that you never knew you needed in your relationship

Happy Valentines Day!

First of all you should know something about me... I LOVE VALENTINES DAY!

So many people think it’s a lame holiday and it’s a waste of money. Some people even go as far to say that they hate Valentines Day. I simply don’t understand this because celebrating love is so important to me! So many of us get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of life that we forget to really spend quality time with each other.

A lot of people are simply not into the cookie cutter fancy dinner date that everyone does on Valentine’s day. I can agree with this because restraints are over crowded, and it’s almost like it’s mandatory and can sometimes feel forced or like you are doing it because you feel like you have to.

Well I’m here to tell you that there are TONS of awesome date ideas that don’t include the basic bitch dinner date! Here are my favorite date ideas that don’t suck. These ideas are not just for Valentine's day. I'm throwing in some summer time date ideas as well! Consider this my master list!

Be a kid again

Last fall, my daughters got invited to a laser tag birthday party. I was excited to celebrate their friends special day, but I wasn’t planning on playing laser tag. It turns out that all the parents ended up playing and I swear we had more fun than the kids! Seriously it was the most fun we’ve had in a long time! It made me feel like a kid again and I absolutely loved it! Go Karting is also another fun idea of laser tag isn’t your thing. Never underestimate the power of your inner child.

Binge watch an awesome show.

Some of you may do this all the time, but my husband and I don’t really watch much tv, we spend a lot more time on YouTube. But I started watching a show on Netflix that had me on the edge of my seat! I made him start watching with me and once we started we couldn’t turn it off. Before we knew it, it was 3am and we had to force ourselves to go to bed. It was So juicy and filled with suspense. We both really loved the show! Find out which show it was in my What to watch on NETFLIX post.

Make art.

I love art. I think because it’s so powerful and it sticks around forever. My grandma still has the same art in her house that she’s had since I was a baby. Just looking at the pictures gives me crazy flashbacks from when I was really little. But art can be so fun to create even if you aren’t a top notch artist. Grab a decent sized cavas, a dollar store table cloth (to protect the floor or table you are working on) some acrylic paint and brushes and start creating art together! I promise you’ll love it.

Tip: if you plan for this in advance you can save tons of money. I highly recommend signing up for the jo-Ann fabrics text message newsletter. They send out 60% off coupons pretty often.

But it gets better, you can also use the 60% coupon at a Michael’s craft store.

So here’s what I like to do... since I have a Michael’s and a Jo-Ann in my town, I hit them both and use the coupon twice in one day. And if it’s valid for a couple days, I’ll go back the next day and use the coupon again. I never pay fill price for stuff from the craft store. Usually I get it for at least 50% off.

Stargaze

Last fall we picked up a microscope for our kids and let me tell you....we spent tons of time examining everything we had in our house. We had so much fun with it that we decided we were going to get a telescope. Stargazing is the perfect romantic date to do on a summer night. There are some pretty affordable telescopes on Amazon that will give you great results. Some even come with a smartphone adapter so you can take photos of everything you are seeing and share with your friends!

Do a wine tasting either at a winery or at home.

I know I might be late on this because sometimes I feel like I’m the only adult on the planet who doesn’t drink. My husband doesn’t really drink either. However when we had our incredible Castle Wedding in New York, our Air BNB host left a complimentary bottle of local wine in our house for our stay. My husband said it tasted amazing and has since been really into trying different types of wines.
A wine and cheese night in is a really good idea for a low key date night in.

Go to the spa.

I've never been to the spa but it is a place I've always wanted to go. I have a feeling that when I go for the first time I will become addicted and want to go all the time. Try getting a couples massage. I hear they are incredible!

Try cooking a new meal at home.

It's very rare that my husband and I cook together, but when we do it is always tons of fun. Hop on Pinterest and find some awesome new recipes that you want to try and make them together! This will be an awesome way to still have a lovely dinner together without having to deal with over crowded restaurants.

Chocolate Fondue

You may be so over the traditional roses and chocolate, but chocolate fondue is a whole different level of addicting. Grab some awesome dippers like marshmallows, strawberries, rice crispy treats, etc and satisfy your chocolate craving. If you don't want to do it at home, I HIGHLY recommend going to The Melting Pot for some insanely delicious chocolate fondue.

Set goals

While this might sound cheesy to some, but there is almost nothing better than growing as a couple and improving the quality of you lives. You may want to get better with your finances, you may want to take a romantic trip, you might want to re-decorate your house, whatever it is, spend some time together picking each others brains and making a solid plan. Goals don't work unless you do.

Take a trip

Most people would say that I'm insane to recommend a trip for such a lame holiday like Valentine's day, but really vacations are healthy for everyone. It is lovely going somewhere new, getting out of your regular routine and experiencing new things. You don't have to go far. There are tons of things near us all that we probably never knew existed. It just takes a little searching on Google.

Visit a museum

I have a terrible confession...I live only an hour and a half from Washington D.C. and I have for years. And you guys...I have only ever been to one museum there. And I only went there recently. It's so tragic. No wait I take that back, I've been to two but one I went to almost a decade ago and I really don't remember much of it. Museums are so awesome. Can I just say that it is so refreshing to spend a day away from NETFLIX and YouTube taking in a bunch of cool stuff. Art museums, history museums, science museums, your choice. I know you will have an awesome time.
