How to live a better life in 2019

Happy New Year! I’m so excited that you are here spending the first days of the year with me. OMG! Can I tell you something? I love new years day. Why? Because it’s a fresh start, a new chapter. A new beginning!

I am such a huge fan of new beginnings because I am very time oriented and goal oriented, so I like to plan things and I like to have a timeline for new things. I love making resolutions at the beginning of the year and seeing if I can achieve them all by the end. This year I am taking it even further by raising the bar even higher for myself. 2019 is the last year of my 20’s and I really want to make it amazing!

I’m always looking for ways to improve the quality of my life and my families lives. I have picked a few of my favorite tips for how to live a better life this year.

Create a vision board

I made my first vision board in late December and I’m telling you that it has already really helped me keep focused on my goals for the year. I had read a lot about vision boards before, but I never felt the need to use one because I always had a goals list that I used. I can’t believe it took me so long to get it together and create one because I can already tell you that it is much different from making a list. I wrote an entire blog post about creating a vision board and how to use it to make your dreams come true. I highly suggest you read it and make on for yourself. 

Remove toxic people from your life.

Okay luckily I have done this a long time ago. Because I have two kids, I really don’t have time for anyone who could be toxic to me or my family. I also don’t have time for people who don’t have an interest in bettering themselves. People who aren’t building me up as a person don’t have a place in my life. Because I am so selective about the people I let in my circle, I really live a peaceful life with awesome friends that I love dearly and would trust my kids with at any time. If you are at the point in life where the people you associate with are not good for you, you need to cut them. I promise you, you will be happy that you did. You can’t be the best person you can be with someone negative/toxic dragging you down.

Celebrate yourself and your accomplishments.

When I told my husband that I was getting my face printed on a cake, he didn’t believe me. You see, we got married at the courthouse in order to buy us time to save money for our Castle Wedding. Since we didn’t have a ceremony, we didn’t have any kind of celebration at the time. I also didn’t change my legal name until TWO YEARS after we got married. I didn’t want to deal with sitting at the social security office, so I just didn’t. Finally, I decided to get myself together and go. I had to sit there for over an hour, but after that my name was legally changed. Now it was time to get a new drivers license. The last driver’s license picture I had was dreadful and was taken on a really bad day. I hated the picture but of course I didn’t want to go to the DMV to change it.
The day I got a new DL with my new last name, I also re took my photo and it looked 10 times better than the one before. I was so excited to start this new chapter in my life with a new name, I decided to celebrate by having my DL printed on a cake!
I told my husband about it and he thought I was kidding-until he came home from work one day to a cake with my face on it! He laughed, and I even put candles in the cake! It was really fun and the cake was delicious! I encourage you to celebrate the things in life that make you happy! Don’t forget to celebrate when you get a promotion or new job, when you purchase a home, when you reach your goals, it’s SO darn important!
Take care of your body.

Up your skin care routine, deep condition your hair more, practice awesome oral hygiene, make time for yourself to go to the spa, or the gym, or yoga class, do whatever you have to do to be the best you that you can be. This is important because this is something that even I sometimes fail at. Especially as moms, we often put our family’s needs above our own. If you are a college student, you might say that you don’t have the money to have a spa day. But whatever you can do to take care of yourself, be sure to do it.

Cleanse your mind.
