How to grow an engaged audience for your blog.

How to grow an engaged audience for your blog

My blog is turning 1 in just 3 weeks! I absolutely can’t believe how quickly time has flown! I have learned so much and accomplished so much with my blog and I am so proud of myself for all the hard work I have done in the past year.

Having an engaged audience is SO important to me! I’m not so much concerned about page views as I am about returning visitors, people engaging, and adding value to my readers lives. I want them to remember my blog and want to come back for more!

I truly believe that I have accomplished those things over the past year. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but I am so very pleased with the progress that I’ve made. I finally was about to monetize my blog this year and it is an amazing feeling!

I spent the last year listening to podcasts, watching youtube videos, and reading blog posts about creating a space on the web that really helped people, brought important information, builds trust, and keeps people coming back. I’ve also done a lot of trial and error and put a lot of advice to the test. I’m happy to say that I now have tons of tips for you! If you are interested in growing your traffic, getting comments, and engagement, then stay tuned because I’m about to go IN.

Content is everything!

Omg you guys. Sometimes I have the guts to look back on some of my old blog posts and my goodness! They are awful! Just all around terrible. Writing a good blog post that is going to add value to your readers lives takes time! It usually takes me about an hour to write a post these days. A good blog post has these characteristics:

At least 1,000 words. The more the merrier, but you want to really jam pack information in there. Also, longer posts will keep people on your page longer!

Detailed and informative. If you are writing posts about lipsticks, add as much detail as you possibly can about the product, the colors, the brand, how to apply, what to wear it with, etc.

Personal. Talk to your readers like they are your friends! I love to read blog posts that have a personality. It’s something that keeps me coming back.

Question. Don’t forget to ask your readers questions. What’s your favorite lipstick? Things like that to get them to leave a comment.

Call to action. When you are finished with your post, be sure to invite people to come back! Those little details will encourage readers to visit your blog again.

 Join blogging groups on Facebook

I’ve used blogging groups on Facebook to find and connect with other like-minded people. Through these groups I have found so many people that share the same goals as me and it feels good to have my own tribe!

I have an awesome Facebook group you can join if you want to grow your blog! Bombshell Bloggers is a paid group (only $10 usd) for Fashion, lifestyle, travel, and beauty bloggers to promote their blog posts, grow their social media channels, get FREEBIES, and awesome resources daily that can help them grow and monetize their blogs. It has been a game changer for me! My Facebook group has not only helped me grow my blog, but I get genuine happiness from helping other bloggers connect and grow! I also have a list of the absolute best Facebook groups to join to grow your blog and socials.

When you join these groups, make sure you are reading and following the rules. Each group has different rules and you don’t want to make sure you are following them so you don’t get removed from the group.

You get what you give. Find some bloggers in your niche to support. RT their content on Twitter, comment on their posts on Instagram, show people that you appreciate their content. Before long, you will start to see them engage with your content. If you engage with someone for some time and you don’t get any reciprocation at all, move on to someone else. Always be genuine, and you will find other genuine people like you.

Engage on Instagram
If you are on Instagram, you might be just as frustrated with it as I am. Spoiler alert, I hate Instagram. I feel like the platform has slowly been declining for the past several years. Despite my feelings, people are still thriving and networking on Instagram and I have finally started to have some engagement on there!

Never miss a post!

My best tip for Instagram is to engage with at least 20 people a day. Comment on their posts, take a look at their blog and let them know that you checked it out. Be supportive of people because It really does mean a lot. Make sure you are watching and engaging with people’s Instagram stories and IGTV. You will start seeing reciprocation in no time-I promise!

Start and build an email list

Here is where I failed miserably this year. So um…I didn’t really start my email list until like last month. Its SO ridiculous that I haven’t done it. But think about this:
Social media changes algorithms all the time. New things are rolled out and things are removed. You might have a ton of traffic on Instagram and all of a sudden they roll out a new algorithm change and you aren’t reaching people, or you might be getting a ton of traffic from pinterest and they update their platform and your pins aren’t being shared as much. What will you do?
Your email list is your DIRECT line to your audience. It is unaffected by an algorithm and will always be a super simple way to reach them. So if you haven’t started your email list yet, I encourage you to start now and also start creating a killer email content strategy for 2019. I’m going to do it too! We can do it together! I can’t wait to see how my email list grows next year.

  2. You offer some really great ideas for engagement. I'm still in the learning states so I appreciate your tips, especially the engagement on Instagram. I do that but not to the extent you suggest. Looks like I have to beef things up.

  3. Congratulations on monetizing your blog, sweetie! Thanks for sharing your tips. I've always doubted email lists due to a growing amount of people neglecting their emails but this may be something to trial in 2019. Keep smashing it!

  6. I absolutely loved this post. This is Matt Hutson from BookMattic. We met on one of those Facebook engagement groups. I personally need to take more advantage of connecting and giving back to people in those types of groups. Just like I’m doing now right? I love how you talk about making a tribe as well. Very useful post!

  11. I love that you mentioned to publish posts over 1000 words. There's a lot of super short blog posts out there, but you can really pack in a lot of value if you expand your thoughts and think about providing value. I also agree that personal posts are great too! Those are typically the posts I like to read most.
